In Blackpool we’ve been holding social media surgeries for a couple of months and have found that there is a real demand in the voluntary sector for events of this kind. With this in mind (and because we love a challenge) we’ve decided to try something a bit bigger – and that is So! VolTech.
We aim to bring together voluntary sector organisations, web developers, hyperlocal news outlets and social media “surgeons” from across the North West on Saturday 19th November 2011 in Blackpool to get around the table, expand our networks and look for solutions.
John is an independent consultant, facilitating community, economic, business, and personal development, largely through the power of social media and new technologies.
Joseph is a journalist and blogger studying at UCLAN. He uses social media to cover breaking news, edits Blog Preston and organises the Preston Social.
Creator of @riotcleanupmanc and co-admin of facebook group that amassed a collective 15,000 followers in 12 hours. JCI award winner for 'contribution to the community'.
Steven has working in and around non-profit technology all his working life. That even includes desktop hardware support. Steven will talk about how social media almost helped fixed the leaky roof of a youth centre. Although in fact, selling t-shirts online was far more useful.
Gary Copitch is the Chief Executive of the not for profit organisation People's Voice Media which uses social media for community engagement and runs the national community reporters programme.
